Northern Wisconsin small town.|||A Masonic lodge is a really cool building to use for a bar! I would be sure to add a pool table and set up a weekly dart league also. In the summer months, try setting up another bar outside with lights and FLOODLIGHTS for a horseshoe pit... again have tournaments, prizes etc.....I will agree that having foodservice in addition to your beverage operation will be and IS a challenge. People subconciously DEMAND consistent food and once you stray from that, you lose customers. Have local bands come in and play, it sounds like you have the room for it also. Maybe set up Football Sundays and show a variety of games (feature the favorites of course). Hiring attractive young ladies is always a good scheme to get guys to take out their wallets. Pay attention to the feel of the town and visit some of the other establishments around the area before you commit to anything and open your doors. As you visit them, ask yourself, "what is this place missing?" or "what is so appealing to everyone about this bar?" As you grow, then you can add food to your establishment, keep in mind again that this will cost more to run properly.... when you get to that point, KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!! Burgers, chili, fried foods, bar pizzas, wings, and MAYBE once a week offer a steak.... Another aspect is Breakfast.... Blood Mary's and Ice Fishing... the possibilities are limitless. Hope some or all of these ideas help out, and good luck !!!|||Make it a sports bar with lots of Packers memorabilia.|||Be sure to have comfortable chairs, nice tables but nothing too elaborate. Have theme night for the slowest nights such as a dart or pool tournament night. Once a month, have free food for that month's birthdays. Have a photo wall of customers who come in frequently or those who win at darts or pool. Have a juke box with songs to suit the age of your customers. Have interesting things on the wall. You could go with antique bar signs, old interesting calendars, old photographs of local sights, etc. Stock lots of snack items, including chips, popcorn, pretzels and maybe pickles and pickled herring. These are all salty, hence, more drinks will be sold.|||Cater to your potential customers. Are they cowboys, race fans, country music, hard rock, etc. You must know something about the people in the town. Search out the largest demographic group that aren't nondrinkers and go for the gusto.
Good luck on your endeavor. One tip, having a grill, that is food cooked on the premises is a pain in the butt. Health inspectors makes the liquor control people look like grade school kids during a fire drill. People who don't even drink love to stop by to play pool. All you have to do is offer baskets of burgers, fries, hot dogs and wings, and you'll be packed with bored, hungry people. One of our friends owns a bar like that. You've just got to hire college aged girls to serve, because they clean like crazy and they're great bartenders -- plus they usually don't haggle for big bucks because they get paid for being so cute.|||Lots of draft beer and all Packer, Bears %26amp; Viking games on direct TV football package,It is quite costly for the season but you will make money.Pool table can be added but watch the crowd you are attracting,Dart boards are actually safer.Contact local chapter of MADD and set up safe ride program like arrive alive who take your intoxicated guests home or at least offer to get them a cab,this can aid in any liability issues you may run into.No need for happy hours but if you do, make brats during the games for free!charge for anything else and get some packer stuff to give away during the games.Get the crowd involved.Good jukebox.No kitchen No problem I work in a bar with no kitchen so we purchased an "Auto Fryer" self contained deep fryer no mess no fire risk from "motion technology", Natick mass.cooks wings,fingers and anything fried has idiot proof program,also pizza maker.Portable, cooks frozen pizzas.You do need a small freezer to go with both for product storage and they cost around$3000.00 but the company will give you about half or more in food to cook and it will pay for its self.|||well anything but the typical small town tavern look...|||A warm cozy Irish Pub setup is probably the best and add some more TV's and you could turn it into a Sports Pub. Very popular here in the NJ/NY area.
