What is the effect of liquor on a heart patients ?

A cardiologist has told me that consumption of liquor (limited) is a good medicine for a heart patient. Is it fact ?|||Moderate drinking is defined as no more than one drink per day for women or lighter weight persons and no more than two drinks per day for men. One drink is equal to the following: 12 ounces of beer or wine cooler, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor.

Specific "suspected" heart-related benefits of alcohol include:

* Raises HDL, or "good" cholesterol level.

* Lowers blood pressure.

* Inhibits the formation of blood clots (this can be good or bad. It may prevent heart attacks but could increase the risk of bleeding).

* Helps prevent artery damage caused by high LDL, or "bad " cholesterol.

But, until we know more about the pros and cons of alcohol consumption, do not recommend drinking alcohol specifically for better heart health.|||Alcohol, a drug, is consumed at some time by up to 80% of the population. At low doses alcohol can have some beneficial effects such as decreased rates of myocardial infarction, stroke, gallstones, and possibly vascular and Alzheimer's dementias. However, the consumption of more than two standard drinks per day increases the risk for health problems in many organ systems. Heavy repetitive drinking, as is seen in alcohol abuse and dependence, cuts short the life span by an estimated decade in both genders, all cultural groups, and all socioeconomic strata. Unless an individual stops drinking, a diagnosis of alcohol dependence carries a 80% risk for continued severe problems over the next 5 years. In addition, even relatively low doses of alcohol can adversely affect many preexisting disease states and alter the effectiveness or blood levels of most over-the-counter and prescribed medications.

Hrrison's principles of medicine 17 th edition chapter 387|||I'm a heart patient, and I do not drink except for a glass of wine during special occasions and a beer during hockey games. I am not allowed to drink any more than that.

All in all, it depends on what kind of heart problems the patient has and what medications they're taking, if any. There are so many different kinds of heart problems that a cardiologist cannot say that liquor in moderation is good for all heart patients.|||Alcohol contributes to dehydration, which is the root cause of most health problems.

The answer to your question depends on your level of dehydration. Most people are dehydrated to some extent, so this should come as no surprise to you. If you have dark colored urine, headaches, constipation, congestion, runny nose, etc you might want to correct your dehydration before consuming much alcohol.|||Yes consumption of liquor up to 30 ml daily is a good medicine but you will take more than 30 ml daily it will be harmfull
