What kind of liquor is in schnapps and can you buy it straight?

I have a customer (I work at a liquor store) that wants to buy a liquor that tastes the same as what you would get in schnapps but he wants it unflavored so he can "experiment" with different flavors. He wants something with very little after taste that's not too high in alcohol content. Thanks! :D|||"Schnapps" is German for brandy, I believe. There are all kinds of Schapps, just like there are all kinds of brandy. It is mixed with whatever flavor it says it is. Cherry brandy is "Kirschwasser," for example. The alcohol content is very high, regardless of whether it is mixed with something else.|||well i have been setting here on the computer drinking peppermint schnapps for about 3 hrs now and have about an hours worth left , but seriously he cannot get it unflavored unless he goes too the distillery and have them make it special for him , good luck finding it fot him/her what i am drinking and i am reading from the bottle it says 30% ALC/CONTENT 60 PROOF , LOW ALCOHOL C ONTENT COMPARED TOO 90 PROOF TO 100 PROOF|||O.K., so far everybody here is pretty much WRONG! I'm from Germany, where Schnapps originated, let me explain:

Schnapps is a type of distilled beverage. The word Schnapps is derived from the German word Schnaps and refers to usually clear alcoholic beverages distilled from fermented cereals, roots or fruits, including cherries (Kirschwasser), apples, pears, peaches, plums and apricots. Often, the base material for making schnapps is the pulp that is a by-product in juice production. True Schnapps has no sugar or flavouring added.

Schnapps is similar in flavour and consistency to vodka, with light fruit flavours, depending on the base material. The alcohol content is usually around 40% by volume.

Since Schnapps can be made from cereals, of course there is Schnapps without fruit flavor.

This one would be ideal for your customer:

BERENTZEN - Doornkaat

Enjoy the sinful smooth flavour of Germany's traditional maize-based schnapps, it's clean, clear and awesome.

In its bold green bottle and distinct logo it should be positioned between vodkas and gin and in the neighborhood of grain specialties like Steinhaeger and Aquavit. Doornkaat could be enjoyed chilled or in your favourite cocktail.

Doornkaat is the only speciality grain spirit that is distilled three times in a complex procedure, thus acquiring its unique quality. This ensures that Doornkaat has an extremely pure, mild and clear flavour which corresponds to the connoisseur of clear spirits.

Doornkaat has been one of the most well-known German brand name spirits for a number of decades (38% vol).|||no|||Schnapps is actually a fruit brandy, made from fermented fruits or cereals. It's flavor comes from the pulp used as base material (cherries, peaches, apricots, pears or peaches). There is no such thing as unflavored schnapps, since the flavoring is built in from the fermented base.|||jade i used to work in a liquor store ive never seen unflavored schnapps. i know theres everclear that people use to make diffrent things but thats way high in proof maybe he can try plain vodka there always coming out with new flavors in that|||Yes I believe you can buy it straight with different flavors as well and as to what's in it, its based brandy and you can take it from there.|||Schnapps is the alcohol equivilent of crack. But it comes in so many flavors, I would have no idea where to even start.|||Any schnapps is going to have 'flavor'. The customer is somewhat crazy in the thought process that he wants something that is the same taste as schnapps but is unflavored. Sounds like he was a little tipsy when he asked you for this one. Schnapps has a higher sugar content and lower alcohol content. No flavor but with still a somewhat higher alcohol content would be to use vodka and add a simple sugar solution. Simple sugar is equal parts sugar and water. Then add that to the vodka. This would dilute the alcohol percentage. It would add the sugar content and it would also reduce all, if any, flavor that you could taste from the vodka. At this point, you could infuse any flavor that you chose to add. For example, you could take a glass gallon jug, add one-fifth, 750 milliliters of vodka, 6 ounces of simple sugar solution and 8 halved peaches and refrigerate for a couple of weeks. This would give you a modified peach schnapps type alcohol that you could adjust the recipe for your next batch. You could also try this with any other fruit, or vegetable, that you wanted to try. Hope this helps.
