Where is the best place in or near michigan to buy wholesale liquor? I'm trying to find liquor for my wedding reception.|||In the state of Michigan, there is a price floor for liquor. Even if you go to a discount store such as Costco or Sam's Club, there is still a minimum price in effect. For beer or wine, these stores offer incredible prices. The prices (for liquor) were formerly set by liquor control, but now, retailers have the option of setting their prices at what they wish, but not below the price floor set for alcohol by the state. This does not apply to beer or wine. In order to ensure you pay the lowest prices, you should consider buying at a store like Meijer or a grocery store, instead of purchasing from a party store, where they may be more prone to elevate the prices. The closest state for purchasing significantly discounted liquor is Illinois, but if you live in the Detroit area, DUTY FREE IN CANADA!!!! All you have to do is cross the border, pay the tunnel or bridge fee, and then come right back and stop at Duty Free. Make sure you declare your alcohol. It costs about $7.00 for the round trip. YOU NEED A PASSPORT. An example of a price at duty free: (3) 1 Liter bottles of Absolut Vodka for $30.00 US. At a store in Michigan, the cost for a 750ml bottle is $20.00 or so.... SO, if you were to purchase a like amount, it would be $80.00 to do so in MI, or $20.00 in Canada at Duty Free. BUT REMEMBER- You must declare the alcohol on your way back into the USA. They WILL most likely charge you an Alcohol Tax of approx. $2.50 PER BOTTLE. If you do not do so, (they will record your license plate number at duty free at the time of purchase), they will be pretty nasty with you, and probably search your car and cause you aggravation (i.e, take your booze). So just be honest with them and you will be fine. But still, it will end up SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than anywhere in the USA. They can lose their liquor license for doing so, and most likely will not be willing do do so. The wholesale liquor prices are unfortunately unavailable to anyone other than bar, restaurant or store owners. For a large quantity at the lowest price....
